'Anglet' (
Basque ''Angelu'',
Gascon ''Anglet'') is a
French commune situated in the
Pyrénées-Atlantiques ''
département'' and the
Aquitaine ''
région''. It is in the traditional
Basque province of
Labourd.
Unusually for French, the final ‘t’ of the town’s name is pronounced, i.e. [ãglet].
The townspeople are known as ''Angloys''.
Geography
★ The river
Adour enters the
Atlantic between here and
Tarnos.
★ A pine forest covers 10% of the town (primarily in the Pignada, Lazaret and Chiberta areas).
★ The sandy coast which commences 200 km to the North at the
Pointe de Grave, the end of the
Gironde estuary, ends here. Numerous dikes mark the Anglet shoreline.
