![]() | Stormlord - Xanadu Live Quebec City 2006 Lyrics: The golden shadow Of the pleasure dome Floated midway on the waves Of the river Alph "In Xanadu did Kubla Khan A stately pleasure dome decree... Where Alph, the sacred river, ran Down to a sunless sea So twice Fice miles of fertile ground with towers and walls were girdled round And here were gardens bright With sinuous... rills And here were forests, forests as ancient as the hills Enfolding sunny, spots of greenery" A mystic reign on the Asian coast was located A miracle of rare device... A sunny pleasure-dome was built Over the winding enchanting icy caves The silence ruled among the sacred lands Of Xanadu From a raging dance of rocks, since the dawn of Time It flings up the holy turbid stream In this ageless tumult, Kubla Khan heard from Far Ancestral voices prophesying... war! A savage place! ...a vision in a dream! And beyond wood and dale there was An endless abyss where the river Would sank in turmoil to a lifeless ocean Alight by the shine of A feeble waning moon Lost in the sky ...and still some whispers in the midnight breeze remind us again the beauty of Xanadu! |
![]() | re: our favourite poems: kubla khan (= a response to Judelicious' "challenge": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeOiNtCuI1I hope you could enjoy it! I really like the flow of the language and the power of the pictures! Apologies that my reading isn't that good, but here's the text: Kubla Khan Or, A Vision in a Dream, A Fragment. In Xanadu did Kubla Khan A stately pleasure-dome decree: Where Alph, the sacred river, ran Through caverns measureless to man Down to a sunless sea. So twice five miles of fertile ground With walls and towers were girdled round: And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills, Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree; And here were forests ancient as the hills, Enfolding sunny spot of greenery. But Oh! that deep romantic chasm which slanted Down the green hill athwart a cedarn cover! A savage place! as holy and enchanted As e'er beneath a waning moon was haunted By woman wailing for her demon lover! And from this cahsm, with ceaseless turmoil seething, As if this earth in fast thick pants were breathing, A mighty fountain momently was forced: Amid whose swift half-intermitted burst Huge fragments vaulted like rebounding hail, Or chaffy grain beneath the thresher's flail: And 'mid these dancing rocks at once and ever It flung up momently the sacred river. Five miles meandering with a mazy motion Through wood and dale the sacred river ran, Then reached the caverns measureless to man, And sank in tumult to a lifeless ocean: And 'mid this tumult Kubla heard from far Ancestral voices prophesying war! The shadow of the dome of pleasure Floated midway on the waves; Where was heard the mingled measure From the fountain and the caves. It was a miracle of rare device, A sunny pleasure-dome with caves of ice! A damsel with a dulcimer In a vision once I saw: It was an Abyssinian maid, And on her dulcimer she played, Singing of Mount Abora. Could I revive within me Her symphony and song, To such a deep delight 'twould win me, That with music loud and long, I would build that dome in air, That sunny dome! those caves of ice! And all who heard should see them there, And all should cry, Beware! Beware! His flashing eyes, his floating hair! Weave a circle round him thrice, And close your eyes with holy dread, For he on honey-dew hath fed, And drunk the milk of Paradise. Samuel Taylor Coleridge 1798 |

His own family has ties with the Chemehuevi that goes back for generations. He has a passion for protecting the Native American Ancestral Rights and is working hard to help restore Native American culture and language. He now serves as Legislative Consultant for the Chemehuevi Tribe. On May 10,2008, Chemehuevi Chairman Charles F. Wood was one of the featured speakers at the Native American Festival and Dedication of the mural which was the outcome of a special six month program for children in Barstow, California. The program was called the "Native American Voices From The Mojave Desert" and offered the children an opportunity to study the lifestyle of the Tribes from that region. There are four tribes that are recognized by the Native American Heritage Foundation as having Ancestral Rights in the Mojave Desert: the Kawaiisu, the Mojave, the Serrano, and the Chemehuevi Tribe. The Chemehuevi Tribe are attempting to have a casino in Barstow as a means to preserve culture, history and raise the standard of living for their Tribe. Unfortunately, the local Republican cronies, the Republican leaders in the State Assemblyman Bill Maze, the State Senate Roy Ashburn, County Supervisor (formerly Bill Postmus and now) Brad Mitzlefelt, and the 25th Congressman Buck McKeon, and have all joined in the campaign to violate the Ancestral Rights of the local Tribes in favor of the Big Lagoon Tribe 600 miles away and the Los Coyotes Tribe of San Diego County. This joint "Off Reservation" project is the doing of a greedy Right-Wing Detroit Developer Barwest who has made a deal with Governor Schwarzenegger. Barwest has now bought up all of the local "crony" Republicans and have put their puppets on the City Council. |
