![]() | LOCOMOBILE STEAM CAR The Locomobile steam car was built from 1899 to 1903. The one filmed has an original engine. It will do 20mph and 8 miles per gallon of water. It was seen at the Knebworth Annual Classic Motor Show on 25 August 2008. The engine can just about be heard when the car is on the flat ground in the second half of the clip. It was Knebworth's PA system playing the "music". |
![]() | Barrett Steam Car - making progress See update on Vimeo - http://www.vimeo.com/2287110 Greg Walker, and staunch winger Martin (Dai) Rees are getting closer to re-commissioning Peter Barrett's Steam Car - based on 1963 VW Beetle, with after market Fiberfab Jamaican body. Engine is modified 1500 cc Air Cooled Beetle engine, but only two of the cylinders. Space that was occupied by the other two (right bank) cylinders is now occupied by a stainless steel monotube boiler with spinning cup burner atop. We got very close to moving under its own steam on this run, but on the next test run a needle valve controlling steam feed for tickover failed - so we couldn't stop off the steam flow to the engine. This engine is exceptionally efficient. Designed to run on 1500 psi steam, with fixed 5% cutoff & poppet valves. So it's not self starting. Started with standard starter motor. Fuel is Petrol. From Peter Barrett's notes it returns about 29 mpg @ 60 mph. For our American cousins, that's Gasoline, 23 mpg. At 85 this drops to 20 or 16, depending on which side of the pond you live. Oil separation is very interesting. The problem is that the IC engine pistons are driven by steam - and steam / water leaks into the crank case. Part of the solution is to used non detergent oil. Once you let detergent into the mix the engine becomes a very effective mayonnaise making machine ;-( The key part is the aluminium cylinder you see spinning on top of the engine when it's running. It's a centrifuge. Liquid is drained from the bottom of the engine sump, & delivered to the centrifuge. This is a mix of oil & water. The water is forced to the perimeter, oil to the centre. Oil is drained back to the engine; water returned to the feedwater reservoir. There's a separate high pressure (2000 psi) oil pump that delivers lubricating oil to the steam valves. It has to be higher pressure than the steam feed. But flow rate is small. Did I tell you that the car is fully condensing? - although the steam you see starting 03:36 tells you that bit isn't quite fixed yet. Anyway, oil carried through to the exhaust is condensed & returned as feedwater - that just floats to the top of the feedwater reservoir, & it's mopped up in a small sponge that floats on the surface. ![]() | The 'Air Car' a Vehicle that Delivers 100 MPG Hey everyone, I'm Elizabeth Chambers and you're watching LivingGreenChannel.Com, your source for living an eco-friendly lifestyle. Prices at the gas pumps are still frustratingly high, and many car makers are looking for the next design break through that will deliver the most miles per gallon. French Car engineering firm MDI may have just found the solution that trumps hybrids, electric vehicles, and even bio fuel... cars fuled by air! MDI's system, designed by a former race car engineer, uses compressed air the same way that a locomotive uses steam to power the pistons in an engine. Unbelievably, the company claims their car can get an outrageous 106 miles per gallon using the technology. American car maker Zero Pollution Motors is the first US company to make a deal with MDI to produce the cars, and they have promised to put out a model by 2010 that will have a sticker price of less than 18,000 dollars. The planned American model would seat six, have a maximum speed of 90 miles per hour, and could travel up to 800 miles between fill ups. The car would still need some conventional fuel, using an internal combustion system that would heat the compressed air when the car was driv Distributed by Tubemogul. |

![]() | ALCO Locomotive Coupling Load 2-8-0 Live Steam Train Coupling Load 2-8-0 Live Steam From Wikipedia.............The company was created in 1901 from the merger of several smaller locomotive manufacturers: * Brooks Locomotive Works in Dunkirk, NY * Cooke Locomotive and Machine Works in Paterson, NJ * Dickson Manufacturing Company in Scranton, PA * Manchester Locomotive Works in Manchester, NH * Pittsburgh Locomotive and Car Works in Pittsburgh, PA * Rhode Island Locomotive Works in Providence, RI * Richmond Locomotive Works in Richmond, VA * Schenectady Locomotive Works in Schenectady, NY The new company was headquartered in Schenectady and eventually closed all the other locomotive manufacturing plants, except for the main plants in Schenectady, NY and Montreal, Que. 1904 saw the purchase of the Locomotive and Machine Company of Montreal, Canada; this company was eventually renamed the Montreal Locomotive Works (MLW) and continued to manufacture Alco designs after the parent company ceased production. The next year, 1905, Alco purchased Rogers Locomotive Works of Paterson, New Jersey, the second largest locomotive manufacturer in the US behind Baldwin Locomotive Works. |

![]() | The MTH "Blues" This video features the newly released MTH reproduction of the old standard gauge "brass piper" steam engine by American Flyer. While it is described as a 4696 in the MTH catalog, this version is numbered 4694 and is presented in a light blue Wabash paint scheme. The engine is a great runner, easily pulling my consist of four restored American Flyer Presidents Special passenger cars. The sound system, however, is another story. For some reason, MTH placed the speaker in the engine rather than the tender, which is the case with my other PS 2.0 engines. The result is a very tinny whistle and a feeble "chuffing" sound. For comparison purpose, I ran it in the last two scenes together with my 384 Blue Comet steamer. The differences are significant, with the smaller 384 sounding like it's three times the size of the larger 4696. Maybe MTH will see fit to offer an upgrade on the sound system with a tender mounted speaker in the future. A footnote on the Blue Comet set. Viewers of my earlier videos will notice an addition to the set in the form of the Blue Comet Box Car (with its doors mysteriously open). The box car looks out of proportion to the passenger cars and rides top heavy round the curves. But a long train is a long train, so it will remain where it is for now. Hope you enjoy the video. |

![]() | Car Skins And Test in TMForever PLEASE READ BEFORE WATCHING This is NOT a tutorial on how to add custom cars but i AM happy to share with you how its done. I got this from Steam if you want toto know which version it is. My in-game name is BFG12043. This is the free version of the game TrackMania Nations Forever. I got pretty tired of having the same old car with the usual skin (GBR for me) so i started to go into the Paint-shop and came up with the first 4 skins in there. The next isn't mine, it was created by the JMF Clan on http://cablemodem.fibertel.com.ar/rebellion/JMF/En/ The next two were "re-skins" of that car by me. The next, i believe to be an RX7 from the same site above. Also, the first Lamborghini, Subaru and Ferrari are all from the site under CARS. The second Lambo was a colour scheme by me, the M3 in the Need Fo Speed Most Wanted colours is from http://www.trackmania-carpark.com/ The next car in my video is an AMerican classic, a Chevy (not sure which model though) and finally, the car i prefer to drive, my re-skin of the BMW M3 GTR. Please Rate And Comment on any of the cars or the track. |
