Historical ties to Public Radio International

Formerly, much of American Public Media's programming content was distributed by Public Radio International, which itself was named "American Public Radio", or APR, until 1 July 1994. APR was formed by four stations, these were: Minnesota Public Radio, WGBH Boston, WNYC New York, and KUSC Los Angeles to distribute A Prairie Home Companion. PRI owns/produces numerous programs today, but still predominately distributes diverse programming from many sources. In contrast, American Public Media APM predominantly distributes content that it owns; the current exceptions are ''As It Happens'', ''Sound Opinions'', and the ''BBC Proms''.
