'Amasia' is a possible future
supercontinent that could be formed by the merger of
Asia and
North America. This configuration, which is an alternative to
Pangaea Ultima, could be brought about if the
Atlantic Ocean mid-ocean ridge continues spreading while the Eurasian continent rotates under the Northward impulse of
Africa. Under such a circumstance,
North America may merge with Asia along a Siberian suture line. At roughly the same time,
Australia and
Antarctica may be driven northeastward in a process that consumes much of the
Pacific Ocean. The modern day Atlantic would then have grown into the largest component of the new world ocean.
The Amasia formation was shown in the series of ''
The Future Is Wild''.
