'Saint Alphege the Bald' is the commonly used named for 'Ælfheah the Bald' (d.
12 March 951), the first
Anglo-Saxon Bishop of Winchester of that name.
Life
He may have been a relative of Saint
Dunstan. He certainly began his career as a
monk at the court of
King Athelstan and was made Bishop of Winchester in
934.
