History

In 1969, Italian aircraft manufacturers Fiat and Aerfer merged and created Aeritalia. In 1990 Aeritalia was merged with Selenia of Finmeccanica group and they created Alenia.
In early 2007 Boeing shares fell sharply on the news that the much anticipated 787 Dreamliner might be delayed because critical fuselage parts being manufactured by Alenia have fallen behind schedule.
The Pentagon selected the C-27J as its Joint Cargo Aircraft.[1] A contract worth US$2.04 billion was awarded to the L-3 Communications team for 78 C-27Js along with training and support on June 13, 2007.[2]
