''Aghiou Andreou street''

'Agiou Andreou Street' (Greek: ''Odos Agiou Andreou''), is Patras' major street running one way northbound entirely from Trion Navarcheiou Street to Agiou Dionysiou Street. It was partly the northbound part of the GR-8 (E55) and is partly the northbound of a branches of the GR-5 (E55) and the GR-8 (E65). Its total length is approximately 2 km. The street contains two lanes with two parking spaces.
Residential buildings with neo-classical and modern architectures covers the southern, the northern and almost the entire eastern portions of the street as well as residential buildings covers the northern, central and southern parts, shops and stores covers the central portions, the street features three squares, one in the east near Gounaris Avenue and two on Agiou Nikolaou and near Norman Streets. Buildings include a tall office tower and the Patras Bus Terminal in the west side, banks includes Citibank, Thraki-Makedonia Bank and more.

History


The avenue was paved in the late-19th century and featured classical and neo-classical buildings. It features the only entrance to the port, after World War II and the Greek Civil War, the road was finally paved in the 1950s, several buildings were reconstructed and the street became one way northbound. Taller buildings were added as well as traffic lights, the northern part added buildings later. In the 1990s, it no longer serves access to the square and Agiou Nikolaou Street when it was itself transformed into a walkway.
