'Adventure Bay' is a
bay on
Bruny Island in southeastern
Tasmania. Discovered in
1773 by
Tobias Furneaux, it was named after his ship,
HMS ''Adventure''.
James Cook explored the region in
1777, as did
William Bligh in
1788 and
1792.
Adventure Bay Eco Village is at Cookville, the original settlement that became Adventure Bay. The Eco Village has a colony of the rare Bennetts White Wallaby and wildlife tours run on most days at 4.30 pm. Cookville is the original landing place in Adventure Bay of Captain James Cook. It is also the site where Captain Bligh planted the first apple and pear trees on Tasmanian soil.
