The 'Absecon Light' is a
lighthouse located in the north end of
Atlantic City, New Jersey overlooking Absecon Inlet and is the third tallest in the Untied States . It was built in 1857, was deactivated between 1933 and 1997, but it has been reactivated and is open to public visitation including climbing to the watch room and external gallery. A recreation of the keepers quarters was opened in 2002 and serves as a museum and gift shop. The oil house also house exhibits on
Fresnel Lenses.
It was designed by Lt.
George Meade and still retains it's original first order fixed Fresenel lens. As the light was designed to be fixed, it does not have a landward segment allowing visitors to look up in the lense where the keepers entered it for maintennance

National Register of Historic Places as reference #71000492. Listed in by the
Historic American Buildings Survey number NJ-734.
