Australian author
Albert Facey.
This book was written near the end of the author's life.
It chronicles his early life growing up in
Western Australia, his experiences as a private during the ill fated
Gallipoli campaign of
World War I and his return to civilian life following the war.
It is considered a classic piece of Australian literature and is particularly valuable as a primary account of the Australian experience during World War I.
The book was made into an Channel Nine TV mini series in 1986.
