BU Today Sessions: Grimis - "Nobody Knows My Name"
Last August, most students were getting ready to return to school. Not singer and guitarist David Tanklefsky of Grimis: he was in a van with his bandmates on an ambitious 32-date national tour that took them across the country and back. It was an incredible experience, says Tanklefsky (COM08), a graduate student and recent alum who studied broadcast journalism. Touring and meeting people has just been a dream come true — to travel with your friends, share your music with others, and see new places together. Tanklefsky, bassist Andy Doherty, drummer Pete Michelinie, and guitarist Lyle Brewer began their life as musicians playing jazz together in high school. The childhood friends eventually formed Grimis, which Tanklefsky describes as something near folk-rock, after exploring lots of jazz and more improvisational music. Over the years, our influences and ideas about music have evolved, he says, and Grimis has evolved with it. With eight years, several tours, a couple of hundred shows, and college degrees under their belts, the future may be uncertain for Grimis. The band is up in the air, with everyone moving in different directions and trying to figure out if life as a musician is feasible, says Tanklefsky. But I plan to continue writing songs and hopefully playing music for a living for at least the next few years. For more Boston University news and videos, check out http://today.bu.edu

MegaMan X8: Boss Showcase - Vile (Part 23)
I thought I'd go fight Vile for a second time since I did poorly on my first run. Then I'd figured, hey, why not showcase all his attacks since this is the last time you get to fight him (The Ride Armor battle doesn't count since he doesn't really do much in that fight). It's not much of a showcase but nonetheless, all his attacks are there. The arena is fairly large, not that it matters since Vile likes to occupy most of the area with his attacks. You are at a disadvantage though since there are no walls unlike your previous encounters with him. Vile has a total of 7 attacks: ==[Status: Normal]== [Rapid Fire]: Vile's standard attack. This is an extended version of his pellet shots in X3. Vile will fire a barrage of electric shots that travel linearly in your direction. Getting hit by a single shot deals about 1/3 damage to your health bar. This attack is also used while in the annoyed state. Difficulty: 5/10 [Tri-Shot]: Vile will fire two consecutive Tri-shots. These shots split into triplets that travel at different angles ahead of Vile. Usually, the second shot semi-overlaps the paths of the first one. Difficulty: 2/10 ==[Status: Annoyed]== [Fire Pillar]: This move makes a return from X3. It's been buffed, as you are only given one opportunity to jump over it. The fire pillar starts burning at an unavoidable height. As it travels along the floor, the flames will simmer down a bit for about a half a millisecond, then it'll return to its previous height. It'll then crash upon the side of the arena's barrier which will cause the flames to burst to the ceiling. It's easy to dodge, but it can catch you off guard. This is also used while in the angry state. Difficulty: 4/10 [Homing Shots]: Vile must have been pissed at the players who used the homing torpedoes against him in X1. Thus, Vile returns with vengeance and decides to give the players a taste of their own medicine. As the name implies, these electric shots home into you. This is fairly difficult to dodge, especially with Vile flying into you all the time. Difficulty: 7/10 ==[Status: Desperate]== [Hexagonal Electric Discharge]: Vile will fly to the center of the field and disburse electrical waves in the form of a hexagon. He will then slowly rotate in one direction for half the duration, then switch directions for the remaining duration. The electric waves will sometimes lose power and thus disappear for a split second. The time frame in which these waves disappear is a little longer than they appear. Therefore, it always looks like your character just went through it without being damaged. Still, it requires quick reflexes. Difficulty: 6/10 ==[Status: Angry]== [Energy Well]: Vile will shoot a couple shots into the air that occupy the area for a long time. These wells will draw up electrical energy and transform them into the form of Vile's electric shots. These shots spawn in groups and will travel into your direction all at once. Easy to dodge on its own, difficult when there's other stuff on the screen. Difficulty: 6/10 [Satellites]: Vile will drop onto the ground and toss up a couple satellite enemies. These enemies occupy a majority of the screen, as they are encased in electrical fields. These electric fields will immobilize you and you will gradually lose health. Not only that, they are quite durable and won't go down in one shot. Difficulty: 7/10 [Hexagonal Electric Discharge Beta]: Vile will perform a shortened version of his desperation attack every once in a while. This only rotates in one direction and lasts half as long. Difficulty: 6/10 [Vile Combo]: Vile will start out by shooting out Energy Wells. Then he'll proceed to toss up a couple satellites. To finish it off, he'll drop a fire pillar to guarantee a hit on you. Insanely hard to avoid. Take out the satellites as quickly as you can. See Part 22 for a visual. Difficulty: 10/10
Rejection deportation USA Unfair treatment Discrimination
in Jan 2006 I flew to the states to spend a couple on months backpacking aroun. Apone arriveing in Minniapolis I was pulled aside and immediately treated with distrust and contempt. After 2 hours of being interviewed by 2 customs and border protrection officers I was found to be falsely representing myself and was deported. My reasons for deortation were Looking for illigal work because I was hoping to do some busking. possession of illigal pornography due to the fact that I had been sent an image of a woman having sex with a horse (I hadn't even opened it) and finally suspicion of drugs as I had just backpacked through Central America... they didnt even bother to search me. I have been to the USA embassy at great expence to try and clear my name and have ben told I am perminantly illegable to travel back to the US. I provided a criminal history statment giving me the all clear, bank statments to prove I had enough to support myself, work contacts, the only thing which I was asked for was proof of owning a property which I dont... appologies for being poor !! I am doing everthing I can to clear my name and yet I am treated like a criminal at ever turn. Thus far I have lost over £500 to this. This sort of treatment in this day and age is unacceptable and unfair. These bully tactics have to stop.

Gonna Get Caught Epilouge
Okay I felt awful about not finishing the story. Just pretend the last chapter that I posted was the finale. Well here you are! =D P.S I know it says Luke's POV, but just keep reading and you'll understand. ========== [Luke's POV]. "Mom! Look!" I shouted at her. We were at Borders and I saw a book that caught my attention. Mom (Cassie) came over and she picked up the book. "Oh my gosh! Joe! Nick! Aura!" She shouted. Everyone came over and saw the book mom was holding. They all smiled at each other. [Later that night] I was reading the book that mom bought. I ran my fingers over the book, and flipped it open. Gonna Get Caught; A Jonas Brothers and Sunkiss (a.n Aura and Cassie xDDD I didn't name them. My cousin Benji did. He was holding a sunkist and he's like NAME THEM SUNKIST! And I was like I'm not gonna name them after a soda! Then he typed Sunkiss, so blame him if it's lame xDD) Biography. I immediatly started reading. [A couple days later] Joe and Cassie have had a happy life apart from their careers. The fans seemed devestated when Joe and Cassie announced at their last concert that it would be their last. But their fans were soon happied when they were on an interview with Oprah (a.n xDDD), and they announced that Cassie was pregnant. The couple soon got married in Hawaii and went on their honeymoon to Las Vegas, Nevada. Their wedding was nothing small. It was huge, and was very public. Their fans meant everything to them, so some of the public was let into the wedding. 9 months later, Cassie gave birth to a very beautiful young boy. Luke David Jonas. Currently, Luke is attending middle school, and will be heading to High School next year. Cassie and Joe have been trying to have one more child in their lives. "Children is one of the most precious gifts you can have" Joe quoted at an interview for an E! special "What happened to them now?". "We love Luke, and want one more to add to the family." Cassie added it. So far, Luke is still an only child. Joe Jonas, after quitting the band, became a police officer. Cassie became a stay at home mom, but runs a buisness at home during the summers. They currently live in Masquitte, Nevada. Nick Jonas and Aurora, also known as Aura, also live happy lives. They too have gotten married, but have no kids. Aurora had a miscarriage, and hasn't been able to have kids since. But, they take care of Nick's other kids, Carolina and Daisy May. Their wedding was also great. But they didn't have a big one, and it wasn't public. They got married at a chapel in Las Vegas with Joe and Cassie being the only ones there. They didn't want to draw too much attention. Their honeymoon was followed to Disney World in Florida. "We're having a great time. Leaving the band was one of the greatest things for us at the time. We loved being the band, honestly we did, but when we quit, the drama was gone" Nick quoted when a fan spotted them on a ride. "We're just living life, and loving it" Aurora chimed in after Nick. Nick became a cop with his brother Joe, and Aurora is finishing school for Culinary (sp?) arts. They currently live in St. George, Utah. Which is only a 20 minute drive to Masquitte, Nevada. Kevin Jonas and Ginger (a.n he met her at a concert) are the last of the group. They're currently engaged and are getting married in October. Ginger and Kevin are waiting to have sex after they get married. "I personally think that waiting is the best thing" Kevin quoted when a fan asked what was going on in their lives. "A lot of people rush into things, and we don't want to do that" Ginger added in. The couple decided to move to Salt Lake City in Utah. Which is about an hour drive to meet the rest of the family. Ginger is a wedding planner. She even planned Cassie and Joe's wedding. Kevin and Ginger travel the world a lot because Kevin is a buisness man. They've been to every single state in the US, and even out of the country. They love their lives and sometimes miss the band. "We hope one day to do a reunion tour, even with Ginger. She has an amazing voice as well" Kevin quoted. The fans hope one day that tour will come true. When E! news brought everyone back together for a little reunion, everyone was right at home. "We wouldn't change it for the world" They all said at the same time. I closed the book. There was a happy ending after all.
"On The Road Again"
Here are some of the photos I took Monday and Tuesday on a 540 mile motorcycle ride on the desert and mountain backroads in Southern California. The route generally circled Salton Sea, with side trips to places like Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Indio, and Calexico. I've been motorcycling for almost 40 years, and it's by far my favorite way to travel around the country, so shouldn't be too much of a surprise that most of these photos include my current motorcycle LOL At one of the places I stopped to take a break, I met a Sheriff Sergeant who told me about a REALLY unusual area known as "Slab City" (which includes an area called "Salvation Mountain"). Slab City is located just outside Niland (at Salton Sea) and is frequented by land squatters and RV owners. The "City" gets it name from the concrete slabs and pylons that remain from an abandoned World War II base and Marine Barracks Camp Dunlap. The area is also near a live bombing range called Chocolate Mountain Impact Area. Some scenes in the recent movie "Into the Wild" were filmed at Slab City and the Salvation Mountain area. Here are a couple of websites about the place: http://vagabonders-supreme.net/SlabCity.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slab_City The song I used for the video is "On The Road Again" by Canned Heat.
