The '1993
NBA Playoffs' was the postseason tournament of the
National Basketball Association's
1992-1993 season. The tournament concluded with the
Eastern Conference champion
Chicago Bulls winning their third consecutive championship by defeating the
Western Conference champion
Phoenix Suns four games to two in the
Finals. For the third consecutive year, the Bulls'
Michael Jordan was named
NBA Finals MVP.
This was the Suns' second Western Conference championship; they made their first NBA Finals appearance in
1976, losing to the
Boston Celtics.
The fifth-year
Charlotte Hornets made their postseason debut in the 1993 playoffs, and became the first of the 1988 and 1989 expansion teams (Charlotte,
Orlando,
Minnesota and
Miami) to win a playoff series, stunning the
Boston Celtics in four games.
Bracket
Notes
★ Down zero games to two against the #8 seeded Los Angeles Lakers, #1 seed Phoenix came back to win their first round series 3-2.
★ Both #5 seeds Charlotte and San Antonio beat their #4 seeded opponent in the first round.
★ The
New York Knicks take a 2-0 series lead over the
Chicago Bulls in the Conference Finals. However, headlines in New York papers and tabloids anger and energize Bulls superstar
Michael Jordan, who torched the Knicks in games 3 and 4 to even up the series. The Bulls went to
Madison Square Garden to take Game 5 and cliched the series at home in Game 6.
★ The Boston Celtics star Reggie Lewis faints on the court during the playoff series with the Hornets. He passes away suddenly a few days later.
