Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame (Part 1 of 10)
Here's a runthrough of Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame, one of THE BEST games ever made. I try to pick up every life expansion, and after completion, will show alternate paths through two of the levels (Ruins 2 and Temple 3). This is part 1, the story cutscenes, and the first two very short levels, Rooftops and Island. This game is the first game I bought the day of release, back in 1993. And with Prince of Persia Classic being released on XBLA, I figured I'd play through POP2 again (recorded from XBox Sands of Time).
Sonic 3 & Knuckles (Sonic): Angel Island
This is a walkthrough for Sonic 3 & Knuckles as Sonic. This is the 1st level, Angel Island. Enjoy!
SFC - Yoshi no Cookie (ヨッシーのクッキー)
Yoshi's Cookie - Bullet Proof Software - 1993 US Yoshi no Cookie - Bullet Proof Software - 07/09/93 JP "This game was originally developed by BulletProof Software under the name Hermetica[1] and published by Nintendo in 1992, 1993, and 1994. In 1992 the game was released for Famicom and Game Boy in Japan. In 1993 the game was released for Super Famicom in Japan and for NES, SNES, and Game Boy in the United States. The game was released the following year in Europe. Yoshi's Cookie was also available on the Nintendo GameCube game Nintendo Puzzle Collection, featured along with Dr. Mario and Panel de Pon (aka Tetris Attack, Pokémon Puzzle League or Puzzle League overseas), which was only released in Japan. The SNES version of Yoshi's Cookie featured a slightly-updated version of Yoshi's appearance. This 'new' Yoshi features a bigger head and shorter neck. This appearance was next seen in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story. The Super NES version also reused some of the sprites (namely Mario's) and backgrounds from Super Mario World." -Wikipedia
RTW's 10 Favorite Video Game Songs
SPOILERS IN THIS INFO BOX! If you want the choices to surprise you, don't click More Info. I could write enormous essays about each and every one of these songs, but I'll keep my lovefests to just a few words apiece. 10. Gangplank Galleon (Donkey Kong Country, SNES, 1994) I love the segue from the sea shanty sound to the balls-out rock. You can tell they totally wanted to make this metal, but the SNES hardware wasn't up to it. This song could be so metal. The DKC soundtrack was the first one where I knew the actual titles of the songs, which went a long way toward legitimizing video game music as "actual" music in my mind. 9. Drill Man (Mega Man 4, NES, 1991) Very jazzy, which you don't often hear in a Mega Man song. I'd like to hear this done by a full big band. 8. Dee Jay (Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers, SNES, 1994) There's just something so intense about this song that I love. The accidentals are what really give me the chills on this one. This is so not the version I wanted to use -- I wanted the one from the original with the flute in the bridge. Much cooler. I think this is from the GBA Turbo Revival port, but I'm not sure. 7. Oil Ocean Zone (Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Genesis, 1992) This song just feels like the early 90s. So does the level it plays in -- garish colors, semi-futuristic but toned back from what the 80s thought the future looked like. I think it's the bass that does it for me on this song. 6. Fight Against a Somewhat Stronger Monster (Super Mario RPG: The Legend of the Seven Stars, SNES, 1996) Excellent spare use of the turntable. The title is extremely accurate -- the music does a good job of heightening your awareness of the situation and making you feel slightly threatened, but you never question that you're going to win. I tend to like Yoko Shimomura soundtracks a lot (Legend of Mana is one of my all-time faves). 5. Main Theme (Jazz Jackrabbit, PC, 1994) In 1994, this was probably as close as I would ever get to hearing real instruments synthesized into a video game. The groove on this song is so fat. I love it. Robert Allen's soundtrack for this game is unbelievable. The theme for the Medivo stage is another top pick. 4. Just Dig! (Lemmings, PC, 1991) More a representative of the soundtrack as a whole than a favorite song. There are some songs I like better, but this one has epic scope, and it does such a great job of just screaming "LEMMINGS". When this song plays, my heart gets ready for adventure. 3. It Probably Will Go to the Pao Pao Island! (Puzzle Bobble 2, Arcade, 1995) One of my previous jobs was pizza delivery. Our restaurant had a NeoGeo machine with two games, one of which was Bust-a-Move. We played it all the time when business was slow, so the "Pao-Pao Island" song burned itself into my brain. Some time after I quit that job, I played Puzzle Bobble 2, simultaneously rekindling memories and experiencing something new. I heard the amped-up version of the song and beamed at its awesomeness. It quickly found a warm home in my heart. 2. Decisive Battle (E.V.O. The Search for Eden, SNES, 1993) I had to cut part of the song to get all ten into this video, so you can't hear this, but what I really love about this song, other than the whole thing itself, is that the title is ironic; it ends on a decidedly indecisive, un-final note. This is a remixed version from something called the EVO Symphonic Suite; the game was made by Enix, but to my mind this remix has a distinct Capcom feel to it. 1. Danger (Secret of Mana, SNES, 1993) My all-time favorite song from what I used to claim as my all-time favorite video game. The title could not be more succinct or accurate. It really feels like there is a meltdown going on in this song. All the strings are so dissonant and abrasive. This song is especially great in headphones, during the part where the violins go up and then down; as they go up and down, the sound moves gradually from your left ear to your right, making the "danger" feel as though it's all around you. This is basically two-and-a-half straight minutes of nonstop chills; I've never heard a video game song I've loved more before or since. ----- Thanks for reading these rambles (if you did).
