'ゆ', in
hiragana, or 'ユ' in
katakana, is one of the Japanese
kana, which each represent one
mora. Both are written in two strokes. Both are pronounced (
IPA) .
Also note that, as in the other -u kana, the 'u' sound is very subtle; unless well-articulated, this kana sounds fairly close to 'y' alone.
When small and accompanied by an -i kana, this kana represents not a separate sound but a modification of that of another (see
yōon).
