'Ślężanie' was a
tribe of
West Slavs, specifically of the
Lechitic/
Polish tribes/Silesian tribes groups, inhabiting territories of
Lower Silesia, near
Mount Ślęża mountain and
Ślęza river up to the area of modern city of
Wrocław. The name of the region
Silesia comes from their language and tribe name.
The '
Bavarian Geographer' mentions they had 15 settlements, or
gróds. The ''Prague document'' refers to them with the alternative name ''Zlasane''.
In their early period, they were subordinate to
Great Moravia. From
990, they came under the sphere of influence of
Mieszko I, first ruler of
Kingdom of Poland. Since then, they have been assimilated into
Silesian society.
