The are a
mountain range in the
Tōhoku region of
Honshū,
Japan. They stretch 500 km (300 miles) south from the
Natsudomari Peninsula of
Aomori Prefecture to the
Nasu volcanoes at the northern boundary of the
Kantō region. These mountains previously formed the boundary between
Mutsu Province (which contributed the
kanji 奥 to the name) and
Dewa Province (羽).
The range includes several widely known mountains:
Hakkoda,
Iwate,
Zao,
Azuma, and
Adatarayama.
The Ōu Mountains are the setting for two

anime series: '' and ''
Ginga Legend Weed''.
