ÅRE MUNICIPALITY

'Åre' (pronounced ''ore-eh'') is both a municipality in Jämtland County in northwest Sweden, and a village therein. The municipality covers an area of about 7300 km² and is Sweden's 11th largest by size. The municipal seat is located in Järpen with some 1,500 inhabitants; the village itself has a population of about 1,000.
Åre, close to Mt. Åreskutan, is a major centre for alpine skiing in Sweden (Åre (ski area)). 25% of the municipal industry is based on tourism, most notably the skiing resorts in ''Åre'' and ''Storlien''.
Åre hosted the Alpine World Championships for the second time in 2007. The first time was in 1954.
Åre would also have been the secondary site for the alpine events of Östersund in its bid for the organization of the XXIInd Olympic Winter Games, the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Åre also hosted the annual Jon Olsson Invitational freeskiing competition ending in 2007.
Åre Bryggeri is a brand of beer.
Åre is the birthplace of New York Rangers Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist and twin Dallas Stars checking forward Joel Lundqvist.
In 1999 Åre was the host for the UCI Mountainbike World Championships and is still the largest Mountainbike resort in Sweden.
There is a lot of different trails down the mountain, everything from green to double-diamond-black.
The Åre Bikepark is open from 1 May until 15 October and is the host for Nordic Championships 2007 and The Mayhem Festival
