The Old Älvsborg Fortress, which was situated in a borough of today's city of Gothenburg
'The Old Älvsborg Fortress' was located at the Klippan area at the harbour entrance of
Gothenburg,
Sweden. It was built by the
Swedes to keep away the
Danes in the
Middle Ages.
Today only small remains of the fortress can be seen.

'The New Älvsborg Fortress' was built in 17th century due west of the Old Fortress, towards the sea, on a small island and served its purpose better. The New Fortress is today a popular tourist sight.
The Fortress gave name to a settlement in
New Sweden,
North America:
Fort Nya Elfsborg.
